Stem cells is a possible cure for lots of cancers. And the research and treatment IS going on here in the use. There are other sources for these cells other than embyos. For example the cord blood and placenta of a born baby is full of stem cells. The human adult bone marrow is full of stem cells, as well as most other adult organs and tissue.
I am getting ready to go through a stem cell transplant that will hopefully cure my leukemia. (yes, here in the US) It has been proven that it can cure this type of cancer as well as lymohomas and a few other types.
It's not so much that someone can say, oh, I have the cure! and then everyone will be cured. There are many different types of cancer that effect many types of cells. Treatments and cures have to be based on the specific type. So, for some types, (like the leukemia that I am going through) there are cures out there (when the treatment works the way it is supposed to, nothing is a garuantee). For other types there may be cures or the possibility and research of cures soon to come.
