I have Crohn's Disease so I'm going on what I have read about them both;
1!. False!. It's not known what kicks off Crohn's!.
2!. True!. I have Crohn's in both intestine (large & Small) and in my esophagus!.
3!. Surgery for both can give you years symptom free but can keep coming back, it is not a cure!. Trouble is you can run out of intestine to remove after so long!.
4!. Crohn's Disease can go into remission if treated!.

There you will find everything from what IBD is, how it's dxed, the latest treatments, to locating a local support chapter near you!. There is also a live chat and hotline run by healthcare experts!. You can also post questions to others who have IBD on CCFA's open forum!.
As for your T/F questions:
1!.F The cause isn't really known but has been found on genes over the yrs!. As for UC, they are working on it!.
2!. T- CD is anywhere in the GI system/track, UC is in the colon and rectum!.
3!. F- Pts!. with UC are cured from their illness because the diseased part is removed!. Folks w/CD are not cured because it can reappear at the surgical site at any time!. To slow the relapse time, most GIs will put their pts!. on maintenance meds right after surgery such as 6MP, Imuran, Entocort to keep things quiet for a while!. I should know b/c I have been through many surgeries in my lifetime!.
4!. F- both diseases can go into remission and come out of it at anytime if the medications stop working, the pt!. forgets to take them, the pt!. mixes alcohol w/it, the pt!. smokes, etc!.
