Lamictal and Pregnancy?!

Question:

Lamictal and Pregnancy?

I have been taking Lamictal 100mg tablets since 1993. I am an epileptic who's seizures have been under control for more than 4 years. I am also 27 years old. I was Wondering if any Women out there have taken Lamictal during pregnancy. If so was your Baby Healthy after it was born? I am thinking of having Children but Want to get my Facts straight about my Medication and Risks it can cause during Pregnancy.

Answers:

There is no simple answer to this ... go and see your doctor or an obstetrician. As a general rule you try to limit all drugs (including tobacco / alcohol etc) during pregnancy because of the increased risks to the foetus BUT this has to weighed up against risks of seizures.
I would not rely too much on the experiences of other women who have had a good or bad outcome from lamotrigine / pregnancy as this will not predict the health of your baby.
Again I would stress the importance of seeking medical advice.
Good luck!
