If you are a Type 1 diabetic, your doctor probably wants you testing using your fingers as these results are the most "real time", however, if you are a Type 2 diabetic and not insulin dependent, most doctors will allow you to test in alternate sites!. I was diagnosed in February with Type 2 diabetes and immediately purchased and read more than a dozen books on the subject!. Those others are right here and "squeezing" out a drop of blood can damage your finger!. That's the main reason for not doing that!. I had trouble getting enough blood at first also and called the meter manufacturer!. Most of their customer support people are also diabetics who have been through it so they have some great tips!. The one I spoke to suggested first washing the area with warm water!. Then getting the area below the heart for at least a minute!. Finally, he suggested pumping the lancing device gently but firmly on the spot about ten times before releasing the needle!. This mildly irritates the area and your body sends blood to the irritation!. The other thing I did was speak to my doctor and start a low dose aspirin regiment and that thins the blood making it much easier to get a drop to come up!. Hope this helps and good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Squeezing can bruise the tissue around the little veins in your finger, it won't effect the testing!. Try setting the lancet to pierce the skin a little deeper!. Also pierce the finger towards the side of the finger, not right in the middle!. If you are still having trouble, soak your fingers in warm water for a few minutes!. Some meters require a larger amount of blood for an accurate test than others do!. You'll get the hang of itWww@Answer-Health@Com

When you squeeze your finger you risk the chance of hurting the capillaries!. instead you should "milk" your finger!. kind of like milking a cow!. massage the finger starting at the base and pull towards the blood drop, imitating the original blood flow!. this is the way i was taught!. also you should try washing your hands with warm water to get better flow of the blood in your hands!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
