Can MRSA (methillian-resistant staph.) have lingering effects?!

Question:

Can MRSA (methillian-resistant staph.) have lingering effects?

Last year, for 3 months, I had MRSA. I don't work in a hospital or jail, am not an athlete and have no idea how I got it. It manifested itself as an ingrown toenail that would not heal. I had a hickman (heart) catheter for 30 days that I self-administered IV antibiotics through every 12 hours. I experienced a 40 lb. weight loss, fevers, extreme fatigue and more. I have read that once you're cured, it's gone. But I am wondering if it has lingering effects, like a comprised immune system or continuing fatigue. Thanks.

Answers:

Once your body has HAD MRSA, it stays there. It may be 'silently' in your body, but, the fact is, it can 'erupt' again. My son works in a clinic, has had MRSA so badly he nearly died. He gets MRSA if he has a cut or is exposed to most anything. I do not mean that you can give MRSA to anyone else while it is not active. Of course, it IS highly contageous when it IS active. My son had it so badly, the hospital delivered all the meds and machines to our home, so I could administer the IV antibiotics for quite some time. Be extra careful with any small cut or abrasion on your body......watch for redness, and, as you know, MRSA can erupt over night and really be dangerous. When I was caring for my ill son, I washed up with the wash that surgeons use before going into surgery, all over my body. I did not catch it. That wash is a good thing for you to use, now.......it is over the counter stuff. Also, I keep sanitizing gel all over the house and in our store, to just rub into my hands all the time. It needs no water or drying towels, so, it is great to keep the germs away.
