Question:

I'm bulimic and anorexic and I can' t take it anymore. tips?

And the reason i'm asking instead of getting professional help is because i dont want to involve my family. we've been through too much already and it just seems selfish. and i also don't want answers telling me i'm stupid and killing myself. I ALREADY KNOW THAT. which is why i'm asking. i want to know if there's a way to cure myself without involving anyone else. please help...

Answers:

I'm sorry to say that it is impossible to be helped without involving those closest to you & who love you.

A support system is vital for any type of addiction recovery, and that is what is going on with you. Eating disorders can be like a drug & unless you have people around you who care about you & know about your struggle, and can help you when you want to go back to it, then your chances of recovery are slim to nothing & you will die soon.

While I'm sure your family would jump at the chance for you to stop killing yourself, if you truly can not involve them, try anorexicsandbulimicsanonymousa... to get a good starting point.

I'm not sure where you could find a "sponsor" or someone similliar, but maybe asking your parents to speak with a therapist for general anxiety might be a good idea. You do not have to tell them what you talk about with them, and the therapist can not divulge what it is you are being treated for unless given permission by you.

Meeting with a registered dietician a few times & being educated on how you body needs & reacts to food is probably a good idea.

Good luck!

Also, I want to add that you are not stupid. You may be taking actions to be on the way to killing yourself, but these are poor decisions rooted in an addictive process which does not have any bit to do with intelligence.... and everything to do with a chemical impulse & reward system in your brain which takes intensive therapy & support in order to halt.
Like any addict, you will never stop being anorexic/bulemic, but go into recovery, where you obstain from the addictive process through stress-coping skills & a SUPPORT SYSTEM for when you get the urge to diet or binge/purge.
If your parents & family can not be your support system, you need to find friends who can be there for you, and not reinforce you negative & deadly behavior.

Join a gym & get involved with a personal trainer. Most gyms these days offer at least one free session per month with a trainer, and they are usually experienced in dealing with unhealthy attitudes toward loosing weight & can help educate you about better ways to stay fit & healthy, and get away from an obsession with food. Exercise is important for everyone, and a good trainer will stress the need to make sure you are eating enough of a balanced diet in order to make exercising worth-while & healthy (IE: if you work out too much without taking in enough calories, your body will go into starvation mode & hold onto every calorie it can, in the form of fat)
Try to find someone who has more than a weekend's education in sports physiology, which some states allow to practice as personal trainers.
Also, joining a gym will expose you to many different types of people who are all working towards a common goal of being healthier, and a good way to make friends who will support you.

It's important to be honest with people about your history with addiction (anorexia/bulemia is like addiction) so that they can support you in your recovery. If you lie about your health-status, a personal trainer or even a friend can not effectively support you.
