Colposcopy/biopsy-what to expect.?!

Question: Colposcopy/biopsy-what to expect!.!?
I had my yearly "well woman" exam a few weeks ago and this week I got a call from my doctor saying my pap results showed I have abnormal cells!. He wants me to come in right away for a colposcopy and biopsy!. I would just like to know what I should expect, does it hurt, etc!.!? He said I was positive for HPV so does the fact that he wants me to have a biopsy mean that he thinks I'm at high risk for cancer!? The nurse I spoke to didn't give me much info so any help would be appreciated!. If you have gone through this please share your experience!. Thanks! I've never had an abnormal pap before so I don't know what to think!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When I first found out I needed a colposcopy I was horrified!. Don't get freaked out right away!.!.!.!.I did and I was a mess!. First of all you will lay down as if you're getting a pap and they will examine you with a microscope by dropping some kind of vinegar solution in there!. Then when they do the biopsy, they will cut a piece of your cervix to have it tested for cancerous cells!.

The biopsy feels like really really bad period cramps, but it only last about 10 seconds!. At least you know if will be over real soon!.

My first biopsy turned out positive for CIS3, which isn't a good thing, but I trust my gyne and she reassured me that she would take care of me!. I was only 26 at the time and had no kids!. She performed a LEEP procedure on me and basically cauterized the cancerous cells on my cervix!. I went home took some Advil and the worst part was that I couldn't have sex for a while and had to wear a pad for a few days!. (hate those things)

Just be sure they test the margins to make sure they got all of it!. Docs don't want to remove too much, but they need to make sure get all of it!.

Good thing!.!.!.!.it's been 7 years since the procedure and I have two beautiful boys and although I've had a few abnormal paps, one requiring the "microscope" exam!.!.!.I haven't needed another LEEP procedure!.

Just make sure you take care of it right away!. It had only been 1 1/2yrs between paps and I was already CIS3!.

Good luck and try not to read too much on the internet like I did!. There is sooo much "worst case scenerio" information out there and it will drive you nuts!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
