Gluten allergy or celiac's disease?!

Question: Gluten allergy or celiac's disease!?
I recently started breaking out in red, itchy, painful hives and swelling up whenever I eat gluten foods!. I have not had any blood work done yet!. Some folks are saying I have celiac's disease!.!.!.but couldn't I simply have yet another food allergy!. Since this all seemed to come about overnight!. (literally) Reason I think it might simply be an allergy is because with celiac's disease one must ingest the gluten to cause problems!. If I touch bread to make my kids a sandwich I begin to itch so is this just an allergy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you have a history of allergies especially food allergies (sounds like you do) then yes I think it could be!. But its a weird one for sure!! Get those tests as soon as you can!. I'm really interested to know whats going on!
Good luck hugs:)Www@Answer-Health@Com

The only way to tell for sure is to go to the doc and let them have a look at the rash, or to have the celiac blood screening panel, or allergy testing!. Some celiacs with herpeformitis can react to having wheat germ oil in their shampoo and soaps, so it really could be either!.

Do you have the same reaction when you touch any other gluten products that are non-wheat based (barley, rye, spelt, graham, durhum, etc!.)!? you could try dipping your hands into rye flour to see what happens, lol!
Good luck and honestly, I would just go to the doc and let them know!. If it is allergies, then you need to get that addressed!. If your hands are swelling etc!. and it is allergies they may want to give you an epi pen and get you on antihistamines!.
Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

That's okay BCK! We still love you!. We can handle a lameass question on rare occasion!. Sounds to me, like an allergy!. I have a friend with Celiac's and I don't recall her ever talking about hives, just abdominal cramping, etc!. I hope you get it figured out though!. Yes, this could be a food allergy!. IBS, Crohn's colitiis, Celiac's and food allergies in general are on the rise for a number of reasons, including our compromised food supply!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The only skin issues I have heard about with Celiac is a form of dermatitis that appears on the skin as red, itchy patches!. And that is after eating gluten!. So I'm thinking it is an allergy too!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
