Do the cravings ever completly go away?!
Question:
Do the cravings ever completly go away?
I'm a recovering drug addict/alcoholic. I have 4 months clean and sober. The cravings have significantly lessened, but I'm still walking around with them. I'm getting sick of it, I want it to stop. Will it ever stop for good?
Answers:
First of all, congratulations of 4 months!
Do you have support? Are you going to 12-steps and/or therapy?
If you are "white knuckling" it then you need to run to support! Can you call someone who has had sobriety for a while? Can you get to a meeting?
My brother has been off booze/drugs for 16 years! Yes, there did come a time when it started to get very easy for him. But he still makes at least one meeting a week. He mentors others who are going the clean road. He remarried 2 years ago, and his new wife can drink around him and have wine in the house, and he knows he won't drink it. BUT he still works a recovery program!
At this point you need to plan to practice eternal vigilance. But yes...it can get easier! I have heard the first year is a real bugger.
FYI, I used to have an eating addiction, and I did therapy and 12 steps, and I have been a normal weight for 15 years.
