Why do cancer patients burp a lot?!

Question: Why do cancer patients burp a lot!?
About a year ago a friend of mine passed away because of cancer and he burped a lot during his last months!. Also my dad is now on heavy chemo treatment and taking a lot of pain killers for pancreatic cancer that has spread to lungs and armpit, and he is burping more and more!. What causes this!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
First off, pancreatic cancer affects a major organ in the digestive tract: the organ that secretes not only insulin, but also enzymes that break down fat and protein!.

Second, the tumor was in all likelihood also pushing on the liver and bile duct, which secrete other digestive juices that break down fat and protein!.

The combination of the two, plus pressure on the stomach and intestines, makes digestion much more difficult and sluggish!. Consumed food can literally start to rot instead of digest, and thus causes a lot of gas!.

Third, opiate and opioid painkillers dry out the body, and upset the bacterial balance in the gut!. So as if sluggish digestion isn't bad enough, nutrient absorption is also very low!.

This is another reason pancreatic cancer is so deadly; patients may eat platefuls of food, but still literally starve to death!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, this is not a common chemotherapy side effect!.
Your experience is limited to two people!. As another person has written, the burping is the least of many concerns!.
In 20 years as a cancer specialty doctor, I did not notice excessive burping as a common problem for the several thousand people I saw with advanced cancers - most of whom were being treated with various combinations of the more than 75 chemotherapy drugs we have now for cancer care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sorry to hear about your dad!. I would say the chemo would be the cause of that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
