How to Prevent Canker Sores

Recurrent canker sores may be the result of nutritional deficiencies!. A patient who has regular problems with canker sores should have blood tests to determine possible vitamin deficiencies, and to determine potential problems with allergies!. It may be helpful to keep a "food diary" to determine potential allergies or food irritants!.

Other preventive tactics include:

- Avoid toothpastes and mouthwashes containing SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate)
- Include yogurt and other cultured, soured dairy products in your diet!.

I used to get canker sores all the time!. I started eating yogurt every day and I haven't had one in years!. You can also get acidophilus pills from the health food store (GNC or Whole Foods) and those will help prevent canker sores also!. Acidophilus is a friendly bacteria that is found in yogurt!. It is good for the digestive tract, will cure diarrhea or a yeast infection, and in my experience, prevents canker sores/cold sores!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The way i got rid of mine was to take a complete vitamin and mineral supplement, that includes a probiotic supplement and omega 3 supplements!.

This brought my system back in balance!.

Canker sores are usually an imbalance in your system!.

Also, to treat the ones you do have, use tea tree oil!. It really doesn't taste great but putting it directly on the canker sore helps it heal quicker!.

I also now brush with tea tree oil toothpaste and mouthwash, this keeps the bacteria count down in my mouth and helps in the prevention!.

I'm not sure about prevention, other than the obvious; good oral hygiene!.

However, when you have them, use ambasol, or another topical pain reliever with a "numbing" effect, that helps!. Also, stay away from acidic foods (tomatoes, orange juice) while you have them; these will irritate them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There really is no way to prevent yourself from getting them!. If you are looking to get rid of the irritation you can use anbesol or liquid campho-phenique, but the second doesn't taste very pleasant!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
