The typical flue normally lasts a week, while mono can last well over a month!. Also the side effects of mono are quite a bit worse!. You can get major inflamation of the tonsils, the liver, and the spleen to name a few!. Why is this bad!? Well an inflamated spleen or liver is much more likely to rupture in the event of a traumatic injury(say getting hit in the stomach or running into something)!. You are not going to die and mono really isn't so bad!. People tend to over react to every illness!. If you want to give them something to worry about tell them that by mid-life nearly 95% of the population will have been infected with mono!. The good news is you'll have life time immunity to that strand of the virus!. I had mono which lasted about a month and a half!. My tonsil were so inflammed I couldn't swallow food so I had to go to the doctor and get steroids to make the inflamation go down!. Ummmmm!.!.!.!. it's highly contagious!.!.!. like the flu!.!. but much worse because it attacks your body!.!. it CAN kill you!.!. something about weakening you so bad that body funtions stop working!. And there is also no way you showed symptoms more then once!.!. when people get mono they show symptoms once!.!.!. but carry the virus forever!.!. it can come out at any time and you can spread it to other people!.!. and you wont know because you wont feel it after you initially "get over it"!. Mono is not the worst virus, believe me!.
Ever heard of AIDS and Ebola virus!? Much, much worse than mono!. Plus, flu frequently kills people!. I never heard of someone dying from mono!.
Problem is mono is very catching from like sharing food or kissing, or people who are living with you!. NOBODY wants to catch it!. Even so, most adults already had it and we are all immune, so I wouldn't avoid you!.
