Basically they are different strains of the same virus!. Pathogenically HIV 2 is a little more difficult to spread and is concentrated more in Africa!. HIV 1 is the most common form of the virus!. It might also interest you to know that HIV-1 has quite a few subtypes to it!. That means that there are different types of HIV-1 that are genetically different from each other but are still part of the HIV-1 strain!. It just shows you how viruses can evolve so rapidly!.
