What should i do about this? ?!

My dad's throat is irritating him a lot, and we don't know why!. he went to the doctor, and they didn't know either, but gave him some antibiotics!. his symptoms are this: itching throat, hard to talk and swallow!. I think that it might be pharyngitis, but we're not sure!. Could someone please tell me what else this could be and what cures are!? I need to know common cures like household remedies!.
