I am 29 and can i inject chicken pox vaccination from nhs?!

Question:

I am 29 and can i inject chicken pox vaccination from nhs?

hi everyone. I share house with my landlord and her 6year old boy got chicken pox, but i've never had that before. I really don't want to be infected coz i got to travel 2 weeks later. Shall i ask my doctor to inject the vaccination for me? Will they do? Because i saw they inject vaccination for pregnant woman only....

Answers:

I think it is very unlikely that the GP will offer you this injection. Apart from the fact that it is reserved for at risk groups, it is also probably to late. The injection is only effective if you have it within 4 days of coming into contact with the virus. The incubation period of the virus is 10-20 days.

The 6 year old was infected 10-20 days ago, and you may have also been infected at this time. Further bad news is that if you do get chickenpox and you are flying, you will not be allowed to do so during the infectious phase.

Good luck and I hope you don't get it.
