Food allergies?!

Question:

Food allergies?

i think my 11 mo. old is allergic to milk. they wont do a allergy test until she's one. she has bad eczema and i have been trying to figure out what is causing it. i took all milk out of her diet and put her on soy,the eczema cleared up. so i gave her some mac and cheese and she broke out again. so i think she's allergic to milk. so my question is i want to get more protien in her diet but what can i give her? do you think she will have a reaction to peanut butter? eggs?

Answers:

Hi. At 11 mos old she shouldnt be drinking whole milk any way, just some cheeses and yogurt. At 12 mos she can begin to drink whole milk. It may be that u introduced teh milk to early.
If she indeed seems to have an allergy reaction, after she makes 1 I'd suggest taking her to a dermatologist to also test for
Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH) is an important associated disorder or complication of celiac disease which is manifested in the form of a skin rash. DH is very common because Celiac Disease is very common, 1 in 133 ppl have it. DH is a classic sign of Celiac and the only treatment is a gluten free diet--no meds, creams, nothing. A biopsy can be done to determine if it's DH.

If it seems to be a true dairy allergy then she'll need to avoid all dairy products. This can be found at after 1 yr or by eliminating ONLY dairy from her diet for awhile. If her symptoms improve then it was probably the dairy. (There are several ways to do the elmination diet, eliminate ALL common allergens for 6 weeks then add them back in one by one, but in your case I"d jsut get rid of Dairy then take it from there.)
She can have whole eggs now I believe.
Peanuts are also a common allergy I started giving my son peanut butter around 15 mos in a sandwich. I'd wait til any dairy issues were resolved before starting eggs or pb bc u may be introducing other allergens into her already sensitve system.

Good luck!! Amy
PS For protein she can have beans, red beans, pinto beans, garbanzo beans and fortified cereals with soy milk.
