Answers:
If a cancer is large, chance is that it often also involve some adjacent vital parts of the body, e!.g!. other organs, or important large blood vessels!. Removal will pose a great risk or even certain death to the patient!.

When removing a tumour, a "safety margin" is needed because there are usually unseen malignant cells around the tumour, and we have to remove more than just the tumour itself, to be safe!. If the cancer is so large that removing all of it will mean the remaining normal tissues left of that organ will no longer be useful, and the patient will die from organ failure!.

Also, in general larger tumours are more likely to have spread ("metastasized") to other parts of the body, and so even if the primary tumour itself is removed, there are too many seen and unseen secondaries and it is impossible to remove them all, and the patient would still die!. Doctors would rather the patient be spared that one operation; sometimes, however, if the large tumour is making the patient very uncomfortable, it is possible for a "palliative surgery", for symptomatic relief!.

In the above circumstances, these are called "inoperable cancers", and so instead of surgical treatment, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or other newer target therapy can be used, either for radical or palliative treatment!.

P!.S!. I *love* House too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

house tv series, he injected some alcohol to the cancer so that it will shrink

the above poster said was true, like for example if the patient have a cancer in the brain and it's huge you need to take your whole brain to remove the cancer cells, if they remove your whole brain therefore your dead

they are a lot's of treatment with cancer

medical
1!. surgery
2!. radiation therapy
3!. chemotherapy
4!. smart drugs

alternative
1!. gerson therapy
2!. breuss therapy
3!. mediatation
4!. yoga Www@Answer-Health@Com

it all depends on where in the body it is,some they can successfully cut out but others they remove as much as they can and then treat with chemotherapy and radiotherapy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I was just watchign that episode too!. House is the most freaking awsome show!. No idea about the cancer question, but your question reminded me of House so i clicked on it :DWww@Answer-Health@Com

Removing a tumor depends on its location!. If the tumor is very large and encompassing other organs or blood vessels it may be very dangerous to remove as it may compromise surrounding vessels and tissue!. Also if the cancer is incurable there may be no indication for surgery unless removing part or all of the mass will alleviate the patients symptoms without significant risk!. I have not seen the episode you are referring to so there may have been other reasons that the tumor was not removed!.
Treatment for lung cancer depends on the stage and type of cancer (there are different types of lung cancer)!. Removal of the tumor along with chemo and or radiation may be indicated!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
