with Hiv infection the virus decreases your cd4 cells which are there to protect your body from infection now getting aids takes longer it happens much much later after infection with hiv so management id usually with antiretrovirals to prevent viral replication and also slow and decrease chances of getting opportunistic infections so ARV treatmnet is usually given in my setup when pple have cd4s below 250 but above that taking acre of oneself preventing croossinfection everytime one has sex by using a condom coz crossinfection increases viral loads in the sick persons body further complicating their illness or getting a virus strain that is resistant to treatment
