Confusion regarding "sugar"!!?!

Question:

Confusion regarding "sugar"!!?

Hi,
I associate the sugar that we take in tea, coffee etc and the sugar level that we talk about in our body. Are they same thing? I mean if I take this raw sugar, does this increase the sugar level in my blood proportionately.? Or for that matter, can I associate sugar with sweetness, and can say that if I take anything sweet, it will increase level of sugar in my blood and give me instantaneous energy..?
Where does glucose fit in this overall picture?

Also what these sugar-free are made up of?
and how is the sugar(that we add to food) made up?

Thanks for answering these basic questions with clarity!

Answers:

ok...this can be a bit confusing even for an experienced nurse who has a father with Diabetes. There are basically three types of sugar: refined (made from cane sugar that is grown) like a veggie, natural sugars (in foods such as fruits, unsweetened juices- apple juice being #1-and even many veggies) and the sugar that your body converts from carbohydrates that you eat. ( carbs being breads, sauces, gravies and many other sources) If you are Diabetic (or even pre-diabetic) you should stay away from all of these! Even people who are normal should avoid refined sugars!
Yes, sugar in any form will give you energy...but, if you are not active or do not exercise away the unneeded sugar (calories)that your body uses for energy than it is stored as fat (calories!)
Glocose is what your body makes (from those carbs etc. mentioned) and if your pancreas is not producing naural insulin to break down this glucose it stores in your arteries and other blood vessels and causes blockage, if it does this in your blood vessels in your eyes...blindness!
Yes, anything "sweet" will give you a boost and store what is not needed and, if diabetic, run your blood glucose level up....causing lots of problems.
Artifical sweetners are just that...man made. They won't give you the boost as they are not real sugar.
