Question:

I stopped smoking about 10 days ago because I wasn't feeling well. Now blood in mucus...?

It isn't little, it isn't a lot, it doesn't happen everytime. I feel like I have a cold but my only symptoms are that my throat hurt and my body is a little sore. I cough up a little mucus each day (for a little over a week now) and sometimes it is orange and sometimes it is very red (about the size of nickels) with a clear clump of blood in it. What is this? Is it a chest/sinus infection (I get those a LOT) or because I am trying to quit smoking, or something worse? I don't want to tell my guardians because I feel ok, don't have insurance, and don't want them to know I smoke/smoked. I've been smoking for about 2 years, never more than a pack a week. THANkS.

Answers:

First of all... QUIT SMOKING... It's not helping your situation... and if you think people close to you don't know... well let me tell you that since I quit smoking, I can smell 200 times better and I can tell if a person smokes just by being close to them... hint... it gets into your clothing and since you smoke, you can't smell it but a non smoker can !!!
Second... get to a doctor... if you can't afford one, go to a state or county run health center... you may have something as minor as an upper respiratory infection or it may be worse, like emphysema or lung cancer... get it checked out... your life is what counts here !! I wish you the best !!!
