Thyroid extremely low? prescribed Levoxyl.........?
my question is.......will this speed up my metabolism back to normal? i've looked it up on the net and i need some help in understanding what this will do for me aside from setting my hormones straight. thanx in advance.~~shannon

Your metabolism will never be normal, but it can be improved greatly by the medication. Weight loss doesn't happen just by taking the thyroid meds. You will have to get the morning TSH around 1.0 and eat less and more more. The Levoxyl should help to improve most of the hypothyroid symptoms you have. If it doesn't, then its time to look further. I know many who do fine on Levoxyl (T4) then others need a medication that is both T4 and T3 because they are poor converters of T4 into T3. You can find out if you are a poor converter by having a free t3 test. Basically it should be above midrange.
For now, take the Levoxyl. Always test first thing in the morning, get the morning TSH around 1.0, reduce carbs in the diet, eliminate fluoride, and exercise at least 4 days a week.
