I just got a bad sunburn on my face, and now its peeling... what short/long term affects does or can this have

Although I am a pediatric nurse now, I worked in dermatology for a long time. The short term affects are just what you have,,, redness, peeling... the long term affects will appear when you are older and in the form of deep forming wrinkles and worse than that skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma is cancer that grows in places that are exposed to the sun.. Most of the basel cells are removed and leave only a scare, however there are many times when the head, nose, and other sun exposed places will become deformed looking because of the amount of tissue that has to be removed in order for the doctor to ensure that the carcinoma is completly removed...Please be careful and use sun screen...
