Do you have a herniated disk in your back, I need to know something?!

Question: Do you have a herniated disk in your back, I need to know something!?
I'm waiting for insurance to approve an MRI of my back!. In the mean time I am trying to figure something out!. In my muscle tissue just to
the left of my spine(T7) I have a hard round lump that is tender to the touch!. Its not on the spinal cord its self just in the muscle next to it!. I occationally get pain in that area!. It goes from spasms to a sharp hot burning pain!. Like being stabbed with a hot knife!. These episodes only last briefly!.
So far my neurologist thinks it could be a herniated disk, maybe a tumor or even a cyst!. I'm just wondering if anyone with a herniated disk has experienced this!? its not a muscular knot like after a intense workout!. the lump has been there for about 6months!. Massage and chiropractic has not helped it go away!.it feels like it is about an inch across but we don't know how deep it goes!.
I have a genetic condition called neurofibromatosis!. My personal guess right now is that this "lump" is more likely to be a tumor or a cyst!.
I have done online research and cannot find evidence this is potentially related to a herniated disk plus I'm not in constant pain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Well holy, holy crap, you never mentioned the neurofibromatosis before!. I kept wondering previously why you referred to this lump as a tumor!. It doesn't sound like a herniated disk, but since I'm sure you know all about your disorder there is a small, remote possibility that it might be!. I forget when you said you were having your nerve conduction test As you already know it can cause bony changes in the spine and you could just have a different presentation than most!. It is a differential diagnosis so just look up herniated disk and don't try to put the two together!. A herniated disk is agonizingly pain full, you are in pain 24/7!. Has any one just pressed on this lump, and did it leave an indentation!.!? Why are they delaying your MRI!? Wasn't it approved before and they just forgot to do it!? I think you should be a high priority because of the potential problems with your NF!. I don't think your going to find any answers on the internet, your going to have to wait for your MRI and EMG, I know it's very hard not knowing but you'll just drive yourself crazy with the what ifs!. All the best, take care, DonnaWww@Answer-Health@Com
