Answers:
More than 98% of people would test positive within 3 months!. In very rare cases, it could take up to 6 months for someone to test positive!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The present stock answer is that you would need testing out to 6 months after exposure to rule it out!. That's what you'll find on the CDC web site, and in text books!.

However!. There is good data to show that, at least after a transfusion of HIV -infectted blood, that the current HIV tests can detect infection by 6 WEEKS!. And that data is now quite old ! Nothing new, but it never got a lot of attention!.

When I counsel a nurse with a needlestick exposure, I always highlight this data, and tell her that if the 6 week HIV antibody test is negative, then that rules it out greater than 99%!.

Yes, it's fair to point out that this data is a study of persons infected by transfusion, not by sex, but there really should be no difference, since the virus makes 10 billion new copies a day - it doesn't matter if you were infected with a small amount (sex) or a large amount (transfusion)!. We should expect roughly the same time course of seroconversion!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

EMS and other health field, law enforcement are suggested to get tested monthly for at least 6 months!. But that isn't always a solid time frame!. Each persons body is different but 6months is the general rule last I knew!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
