Is anyone else out there in a wheelchair and how do you get energy to do things?!

Question:

Is anyone else out there in a wheelchair and how do you get energy to do things?

I mean, normally when you have an idea, you jump up and go do it, and walking/moving around produces energy. I've been in this chair from MS for over 3 yrs. now and its like, with any body, if you sit around long enough, pretty soon you don't feel like doing anything.

I know that when i was still able to walk, the way I got past it, was to get up and do something.

Alot of days so I'm so full of energy i feel i could burst, I have lots of ideas of things to do, but it seems this stupid chair stops me. If I were walking, i would just get up and do it.

I get frustrated when I can't just get up and do it, because everything i do takes FOREVER, when i could have had done 20 times over in the time it takes me. Just the thought of what I have to do to get from point A to point B stops me.

Just wondered if anyone else has had to face this and how do you handle it?

Answers:

Have you tried exercises you can do while in your chair? I am in a chair and I workout daily, using small barbells and a stretchy band. It also helps me to get outside and breathe fresh air and feel sunshine on my face.

Try to stop thinking of things in terms of what you can't do and focus on what you can. Don't be so hard on yourself when it takes you longer to do things. Focus on the task at hand and doing a good job, rather than on how you could have done it quicker before. Find ways to do things you enjoy and involve yourself in activities you can do.

Good luck.
