Labcorp billing and STD testing?!

Question:

Labcorp billing and STD testing?

I got a bill from LabCorp the other day. I had gotten chlamydia and treatment for it earlier, but I never remember being tested with LabCorp. [I guess my GYNO tests w/them] Anyways, on the bill it is asking me to pay for 79.40 of it, and it says it "represents the co-insurance, deductible or co-pay amount due after notice from my insurance co." First: my dad pays the bills [i'm 19] & it says what I was billed for, which was "chlamydia/GC, DNA probe w/rflx" "chlamydia competiton rflx" "N. gonorrh competition rflx" Now, I know it was irresponsible of me to trust that the guy I was with was truthful to me, but I don't want my dad knowing I had Chlamydia. What do I do when I give him the bill? He's going to see what I was billed for. Also, am I able to pay with the insurance card that was given to me? It works like a credit card, but remember what it said about 'copay'? Or do I have to give it to my dad and have him pay from check or credit card?

Answers:

If your dad doesn't know what "rflx" means then you may be ok. Rflx means reflex (which means positive/retest). It is common for women to have GC DNA Probe as a routine test during a pap smear. Just tell your Dad it was a routine exam, or fess up. You could also pay the $79 and be done with it (nobody would know). Next time be more careful. Your lucky that's all it was. You can pay the copay, it's usually 20% or less. Call your insurance company and ask them how much it is. Make sure your insurance has paid their portion, then pay your copay.
