What can be done with a tube in a childs ear still causing ear problems?!

Question: What can be done with a tube in a childs ear still causing ear problems!?
My daughter had tubes put in her ears in Feb '05 due to frequent ear infections!. Now almost 4 years later, 1 of the tubes is still in her ear and over the last 2 months she has started having problems in the ear with the tube in it (which makes no sense since the tubes were suppose to prevent it)!. Back in august the doctor said that the tube seems to be getting blocked and that it causes her ear pain!. They like to keep perscribing more antibiotics for her, which do not work!. So I put drops in her ears to help with trying to break it up because I try to clean her ears more often, but seems to make it worse as I am sure that q-tips just push the wax down further!. And I was curious if anyone knew of anything else that can be done to help prevent the tube from becoming blocked!? Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I typically remove ear tubes in children if they have been in place for more than 3 years, especially if they are causing symptoms, although if its a child who has had repeated sets of tubes, I will sometimes leave them in longer!. Take her back to the surgeon who put them in and see what they recommend!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My son had tubes put into his ears ( four times!. This is because the tubes would move, inside the ear, and not work properly!. It sounds as though your daughter needs to have the old tube (s) out, and new ones put in, properly!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

What sort of drops did you put in her ears!? You are not supposed to put in anything without the doctor's orders!. What was the diagnosis of your child!? CSOM of the tubotympanic type!. i'm assuming!.
please understand that blockage of the tube can occur, but its more likely if you've put in something!. And you don't really have to clean the ear canal!. just wipe the opening with buds without inserting them in!. The ear has a self-cleaning property and the debris is automatically pushed out!. You are creating problems by cleaning it deeply!.
Please trust your ENT surgeon on this, not the internet!.
They may need to do another myringotomy and grommet insertion if their is blockage or displacement!. Mastoidectomy may be needed!. If there is hearing loss, myringoplasty or tympanoplasty may be needed!. Keep administering the antibiotics prescribed, and do go in for surgery if advised!. Do not let water enter the ear, use ear-pugs while swimming/showering!. Treat all colds and coughs, the infection can ascend to the ears!. The only definitve treatment for most advanced cases of chronic suppurative otitis media is surgical, if poor compliance with antibiotics has complicated the disease!.!. But its for her surgeon to decide!. If you do not follow orders and the condition is worsened, your daughter could suffer serious complications (though very rare now) including mastoiditis, facial nerve palsy, labyrinthitis, brain abscess, meningitis, lateral sinus thrombosis etc!.
