Spider bite boil maybe?!

Question:

Spider bite boil maybe?

Ok...I had a nice big cut a few weeks back from bailing (im a skateboarder). The scab healed and all but yesterday, I was cleaning some shelves that had spider webs and whatnot and today I noticed the cut i had before has a nice red roundish bump...red and white (blood and puss maybe?)...is that a boil or what? Honestly I have no clue what to do about it...i put antibiotic cream on it earlier with a bandaid...what should I do now? Eventually I'm going to go to the doc if it gets worse. Also on my other arm there's a totally flat small rash....what should I do about that one also? Thanks a bunch ladies and gentlemen.

Answers:

I would start by keeping the wound clean and keep some triple antibiotic cream on it. You can soak it 3-4 times a day for about 20 minutes in hot water - if the redness increases over the size of a quarter or if you get red streaks going up your arm - beat feet to the nearest MD!! If the pus is a large amount - go ahead and be seen now; you probably have a wound requiring an antibiotic. If it is swollen and nasty looking, see someone right away. The bites form spiders that you would really need to worry about would be ones that cause necrosis of the flesh (brown recluse spider). That type of bite would get a purple-deep red and start oozing nasty from the center (brown, yellow, rotten smelling stuff). If you are unsure - your safest bet is to see a doc to be sure you don't have anything that is serious.
