The "special" diet does not cost any more than your regular diet, maybe it could even cost less, since you need to stay away from junk foods!. All it is, is a diet lower in carbs!. You can eat anything as long as it is within limitations!. Your meals should not consist of more than 45 grams of carbs per meal, and you can have 2 daily in between meal snacks that are no more than 15 grams of
each!. Many times the drug manufacturers will help with the cost of medications you must take, some are even free!. There are free clinics you can go to, and some that charge according to what your income is!. A "strict" exercise regime can just be walking for at least 45 minutes each day!. No special equipment or gym needed!. Many of us are on very limited income, but still take care of our health!. You can also see if you qualify for medicaid!. If you are on SSI, you can apply for medicare, even before you are 65!.!. Here are two websites that you can check out that can possibly help you!.

One of the first things you need to do is go to some diabetic educational classes!. Your doctor will most likely have to write you a "prescription" for the classes so you can get them free or low cost!. Secondly, make an appointment with a dietitian or a nutritionist!. You only have to see her a few times, but it will make controlling your dieseas much much easier when you learn about diet and nutrition!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm sorry to hear you've discovered you're diabetic!. With the right diet and excercise and medication you should begin to feel much better than before you were diagnosed!.

In terms of money I'm afraid there are no extra benefits available!. However, a diabetic diet is very similar to plain old healthy eating, you just have to watch your sugar intake!. There is not anything special or expensive that you must buy!. Also brisk walking is as good form of exercise as any, and that's free!

You can be diabetic and live inexpensively!. Many people do!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most of the "special diabetes diet" consists of salads and a little bit of meat!! Get rid of all the cereals and rices and potatoes in your life!. Breads are also not a necessity!.

Bags of salad greens and a little bit of other fruit/veggies to go on it with a couple of hardboiled eggs makes about 3 or 4 days worth of food for 2 people!! Not expensive at all and all are available on limited funding!.

Diabetes doesn't require a "special" diet! Just giving up some things that we really don't need to be eating anyway!.

Walking is free and available to everyone!! You do not need a gym membership at all!. You can walk around and around the block and visit with people, or you can walk in the mall, museum, large stores, or anywhere else!. One hour a day as fast as you can walk is a good starting point! You do not need special equipment or special exercises to do!.

Meds and testing strips as well as labs and office visits are more important and the expensive part of this!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

are you on food stamps at all!?!?!?!?

I am in the same boat,I have no job,no insurance and I have a chronic illness!.

The best I can tell you is there are some very cheap meals you can make by using things like lentils, rice, and vegetables,if u go to a farmers market type place u can get good deals on them!.Lentils are very cheap and can stretch really far on a tight budget,u can also try dried beans, and peas which are good for diabetics, next try to avoid frozen dinners and eating out at resteraunts, try to cook meals at home!.

If you will go to Freestyle Light you can get a free meter from them and they will pay up to $50 for your strips!. The greatest deal I have found!.
As for your medications, find out if the doctor is going to write you a prescription for the generic version of the medications!. If he does most all the major pharmacies have a generic program in place where you can get the meds for $4/monthly!.
If he wont, go to freedrugcard!.us and you can print out a free card, where you can get your meds at a greatly reduced rate!.
Also there is PPARX!.COM!. You can go there and see if you can qualify to get your medicines at no cost to you!.
Also check with your state and see if you qualify for medicaid and food stamps!.
As for the food, you can purchase what you need at your local grocery store and it does not need to be special food!. Just eat a low carb diet and your sugars will improve!.
