Puppy Shots
- the what, when and why
Now that you're a puppy parent, making sure she gets her puppy shots is one of your first, and most important, jobs (no pressure!)
Vaccinations are vital to little Fifi's health as there are several common but very serious, and often potentially fatal, dog illnesses that you MUST protect her from!.
On this page you'll find a puppy immunization schedule showing a list of the puppy vaccinations that are essential, as well as a few that are optional!. It'll help you figure out when Fifi's next vaccination is due!.
Remember, giving your furchild her puppy immunizations is a very important part of being a good puppy parent!

Usually distemper vaccine (distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus) at 6 weeks, 9 weeks and 12 weeks!.
Rabies is at 12 weeks
Depending on where you live, Leptospirosis vaccine and/or Lyme vaccine!.
If you are planning on going to puppy class or the groomer or the dog park, should have the kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccine!.

Please reconsider your stance about seeing a veterinarian!. Your puppy should be examined for congenital problems like heart murmurs, umbilical hernias and cleft palates!. Parvovirus can be a fatal disease and is easily preventable with a proper vaccine series!. I'm not sure where you are going to get vaccines without going to a veterinarian, and I'm not sure I would trust a secondary source like the local feed store!. You don't know that the vaccine has been properly stored, isn't expired, or other problems!.
