MRSA-Do I need to go to the doctor? ?!

Question: MRSA-Do I need to go to the doctor!? !?
My daughter was just diagnosed with MRSA!. Her only symptoms were bumps, painful boils, and recent styes!. I have also had painful boils and the doctor told my mother(who took my daughter to the doctor) that I should be seen!. If I don't currently have any, can they still tell me whether or not I have it!? Or would I just be wasting my time and money on a useless doctor's visit!? Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
MRSA is a staph infection in the skin, which requires antibiotics of a different sort than usual!. Staph bacteria, including the MRSA variation, lives on the surface of everyone's skin and only causes problems like you describe when it gets into the skin!. You have to culture an active lesion to diagnose any kind of staph infection, including the MRSA variation!. If you don't currently have any boils, rashes, etc- there wouldn't be anything to culture except perhaps your nose!. That might be helpful to determine if you are a carrier, and the source of the daughter's infection!. You also need to have some information on things you can do to help prevent further breakouts of this sort, and to prevent it spreading to other members of the family!. So in this case, it would not be a useless visit entirely!. You may not have an active infection, but you don't want one either, and you don't want anyone else to get one!. Best to be safe than sorry, so go ahead and go see the doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
