Question:

Please save my life. i have a thyroid problem initially my doctor recommended dose of 50 mcg thyroxine tablets

later he kept increasing by 12.5 points every 8 weeks until it reached 125, then my tsh levels were controlled but after a few months my tsh level went down from 0.35, then he started decreasing it step by step again it got conmtrolled but afte a while tsh levels went up the noramal levels. tis kept happening, and my tsh levels gets controlled in the normal range but without changing the dose it keeps going either up or down and never remains controlled for long. it is now three years when i was first tested with thyroid trouble. now i have become ir regular with my tests and sometimes also with my medicine though still i am fairly regular but not as much as in the first two years and more. what should i do? i there a way where i can maintain my tsh levels, also tell can tsh levels can ever become normal without any medication
?

Answers:

Ae you testing the TSH first thing in the morning each time? This is very important in adjusting the dosage because TSH changes throughout the day being at its highest point while we sleep. Because its high while sleeping, you want to test first thing in the morning. Around 2PM TSH is at its lowest point. Basically on T4 meds, you want the TSH to be around 1.0. The TSH range is too broad and actually because TSH changes throughout the day, its a lousy test. Better tests are the free t4 and free t3.

The important thing is how do you feel? If you feel bad, then you are either at too high of a TSH or you may not be converting T4 into T3 and require a T4/T3 medication like Armour.
