When I had an abdominal CT scan for appendicitis my head was sticking out a little!. They didn't put my entire body through!. I'd think it depends on who is running the test, but either way your head won't have to run all the way through the machine no!. Just tell them your concerns because it's not required for your head to get in there!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A CT scan is basically a large circular x-ray machine that takes computerized x-rays every millimeter or so!.!.the doctors will have an extremely well-detailed sets of shots from this procedure!.!.

You'll lay down on a fairly comfortable 'gurney' that automatically moves into and out of the machine!.!.the opening in the machine that you slide into is pretty large and should not cause any claustrophobic side effects!.!.it can be pretty loud though as the drum that takes the shots rotates around you!.!.

Since it's abdominal your head will stick out one side or the other!.!.you might have the CT Scanner mixed up with the MRI machine that also takes very detailed magnetic resonance images!.!.the MRI machine is a little cramped depending on the individual's size!.!.

The CT technician will show you the machine and if you're still having claustrophobic reactions to the CT scanner!.!.then I'm sure they'll offer you some sedatives such as ativan/lorazepam to take the edge off!.!.

I have a good feeling that you'll be ok with the CT scan as the machine is only about 2 feet through at it's widest part and the opening goes right through the cylinder!.!.the opening is about three feet in diameter so it enables even a very large peron to move back and forth through the machine!.!.

You'll be fine!.!.

God Bless and thanks for reading!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
