Has anybody out there had the procedure...?!

Question:

Has anybody out there had the procedure...?

... to widen the urinary tract? This is when you actually go under general anaesthetic to have rods inserted into the urethra to widen it where it has constricted. If anyone has had it, could you tell me how successful it was? Have you had to repeat the procedure over time? Have your symptoms returned? What is the likelihood of having to self-insert a catheter regularly once this procedure has been done?

Need to clarify, the procedure is not for me, it's for my husband - don't know if this makes a difference in terms of the way that it's donere: men/women?

Answers:

My mum had it done 4 years ago, and so far so good. She was told that she may need to have the procedure repeated after 10 years, but she doesn't mind that so much. She said it was quick and painless, and an enormous relief! She has shown no sign of the symptoms returning, and is healthy and happy.
Her sister also had it done, but she had to have her rods replaced after 9 years. Her daughter had it done, and had her rods fitted for 12 years before they had to be replaced.
It's a bit inhibiting before you get it done, but trust me, I have seen first hand the before and after, and even though you may end up having to have the procedure repeated, you should get close to a decade from it, and once you experience the benefits you won't mind having to go through it.
Best of luck with it sweetheart.
