URGENT - A friend on Topamax and Vicodin is talking crazy!?
I have a very dear friend who is taking Topamax and Vicodin for severe pain resulting from a car accident. He is one of the nicest, gentlest, most generous friends I've ever had ... but now he's suffering from mood swings and paranoia. Needless to say, I'm VERY worried about him.
Recently, he has been bumping into a lot of people who he had been out of touch with for several years - now he thinks this portends his death! The other day, while having a conversation with another friend, he noticed a co-worker nearby ... and now he thinks she was spying on him!
Today, he picked up four more prescriptions. And he's leaving for Europe in a few days.
His life has been utter hell for the last several years (for reasons unrelated to his health). Tonight we were on the phone and he kept saying if he "didn't come back" to know that he went out doing what he loved best - traveling.
Any advice, especially from anyone familiar with these drugs, would be greatly appreciated! Thank You!

Thank you for your response Desiree. My friend is on the MAXIMUM amount of Topamax - 150 mg if I'm not mistaken. Did you have any problems with delusions? Paranoia?
Given your experience, do you have any advice for what I should do? I don't want to inadvertantly make his life worse, but now that he's talking about death, I'm especially concerned. Thanks again!

Hey..I had a friend on Topamax for seizures...and she went crazy....she was extremely paranoid..and hearing voices..but she realized there was something wrong with her..and they took her off asap...she was on 150mg also..and yes...it can make you crazy...read up on Topamax....psychotic issues is definately one of the side effects...good luck!
