I had this procedure done about a year ago!. This was the biopsy to confirm suspicious findings on diagnostic mammogram/ultrasound!.

The worst part of the procedure was getting the local anesthetic to deaden the area being biopsied!. They stuck the needle right into a big ole painful tumor!. After a few minutes, the radiologist, a wonderfully kind and gentle man, came in and explained the procedure and what would be happening!. He took the core samples, left 2 tiny metal clips in me (one at the primary tumor site and one in the axilla where a second tumor in my lymph nodes was located), put some steristrips on, and that was it!. They took a couple of mammograms to make sure the clips showed up on film!.

A few days later I got the phone call that I had breast cancer!. It was only the initial pathology findings though!. I had to wait several more weeks to find out hormone receptor and Her2/Neu status!.

All in all, it wasn't that horrible, in retrospect!. Of course, at the time it's pretty unsettling, all of it !.!.!. fearing you have cancer, not knowing, not knowing what the future is going to hold, or how much of a future you have !.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had one of these as part of my diagnosis of breast cancer!.

For me, the worst part was the emotional strain of waiting for the diagnosis!.

Physically, the local anesthetic stung more than anything else!

I was given a mini ice pack (frozen 50ml saline sachet wrapped in gauze) to tuck into my bra afterward to reduce swelling/bruising/pain!.

3 days later the whole tumor was being removed, so the biopsy became past history!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I found a lump 4 months after my regular mammogram!. Was scheduled for another mammogram and was able to have ultrasound and biopsy on the same day!. They were very good about explaining the process but the numbing injection didn't work and it hurt like Kra#!!!. I was given an ice pack to put in my bra and told to take Tylenol for the discomfort and they said I could go to work I broke down in tears in the car, called the office and took a PTO day!. I wasn't prepared to go to work with a big lopsided boobs and try to explain to a group of 20 male architects what was going on!. This was the Friday before Memorial Day Weekend!. I got the results the following Wednesday and it wasn't good!. After an MRI showed questionable spots on the other breast I had two more biopsies on that breast but they were a piece of cake compared to the first one!. The radiologist said the first one probably hurt so much because the tumor was close to the chest wall!. That was 4 years ago!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I just had the ultrasound guided needle core biopsy just last wednesday and was told on Friday that I do have breast cancer!. What stage I don't know!. The procedure was fairly simple and didn't hurt!. I had a little pin prick from the needle for the lido-cane and then after that I didn't feel a thing!. In fact I was very interested in watching the needle actually go into my skin with the ultra sound!. The only draw back that I can think of is that I have a lot of bruising but I believe that is from the fact that my radiologist drew several samples and my skin closed up as soon as she withdrew the needle so she had to re-puncture me several times but no pain whatsoever!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had it done over a year ago!. It was almost completely painless, and came out benign!. So it was good all around!. It is scary though!. My mother died of this disease 12 years ago, so having a biopsy myself was pretty freaky!.

Good luck to you!
