Cancer of the esophagus - could you please let me know if you, or somebody you k!

Question:

Cancer of the esophagus - could you please let me know if you, or somebody you know has had treatment for this

with photodynamic therapy. My father's been diagnosed with this, and he does not wish to go down the conventional surgery method of having a surgery which would entail 3/4 of his stomach taken out. PDT is the latest method of treatment, however, as expected the local hospital or better said, the surgeon is not co-operating and wants to butcher him instead. We will be seeking a second opinion, and although this is a newest way of treating cancer, most people have not heard of this, and the NHS are not giving the best advice that there is. The surgeons are giving biased views as they would be out of work if everybody opted for PDT. I'd like to hear from those who have had this treatment, or know of somebody who had this done. Tell me your experience of which hospital you had the treatment in, which STAGE of cancer, and generally as much info as you can give me please. This may turn into a fight with the NHS, and if needs to be, it will be. Pls help with thorough replies. THANKS!

St. nino - sorry to 'give you a fright', but we all have to deal with reality the best we can. You will soon find out your diagnosis and that's when it truly becomes frightening. I hope they give you all the options for treatments available. Thanks for the best wishes for my dad, and I also wish you the very best of luck!

Answers:

I'm sorry to hear of your Dad's illness and hope all goes well. Unfortunately I suffer from Barrett's Oesophagus, an untreatable illness which has a chance of turning cancerous. I have to keep the symptoms under control or I will be in trouble. I have looked at PDT and it looks like the best treatment for cancer of the oesophagus.
Cutting people open and butchering them should be the very last resort. Keep fighting for your dad to have PDT, and wish him all the best from me.
