Why do people get boils and what are some home remedies to get rid of them???

Answers:

Most boils are caused by a variation of staph- usually Staph Aureus, which normally lives on the skin and in noses of all humans. As long as it stays on the skin,it causes no problems. In some cases, it manages to get into the skin, via a pore or hair follicle, where it can set up housekeeping and cause trouble. The body detects the invader bacteria and attacks it, walling it off to prevent the spread to surrounding skin. That causes the ugly red lump to appear, which eventually fills with pus, a combo of dead and live bacteria and dead white blood cells. Eventually the body is able to isolate the infection entirely and force it out, to drain onto the surface of the skin. The simplest way to deal with a boil in the making is to apply moist heat with a clean washcloth. As hot as you can stand, as often as you can do it. This encourages more blood supply to the area and thins the skin, dilating the pores and encourages things to speed up a bit to drain. Usually in a day or so, it will form a large white head and drain all on it's own. At that point, it can begin healing. The best thing you can do with a boil is leave it alone, cover it with a bandage and resist picking, poking and squeezing. If it is not ready to drain, you can rupture the capsule beneath the skin and spread the infection to surrounding area. That just makes matters bigger and worse. When it begins draining, you need to keep it bandaged and be careful not to touch it without washing your hands, and washing them thoroughly afterwards, especially before touching any other part of your body. You can spread the bacteria on your hands to create another spot. It's the same bacteria that causes most pimples and super zits- which is really all a boil is, a super zit that's not on the face. Anywhere you have skin, you can get one. Really large or painful boils can require a doctor to drain and remove, and a course of antibiotics, and reoccuring boils usually mean there is an overgrowth of the staph bacteria on the skin. That requires more aggressive treatment, but is not usually a problem for most folks. The odd boil just seems to happen sometimes. It's not a matter of cleanliness, diet or anything else. Excessively tight or synthetic clothing can set you up for one, though. Otherwise, boils, like all zits, sometimes just happen for no apparent reason. The skin is quite capable of handling the problem without your assistance for the most part, and other than applying heat will be much better off left alone. It will drain faster and heal quicker that way as well. No potions or lotions required, wanted or needed. Apply heat, cover and wait it out.
