As a diabetic what is the first thing you would tell a newly diagnosed diabetic?!
Question:
As a diabetic what is the first thing you would tell a newly diagnosed diabetic?
I get asked alot of questions by people who are diagnosed as diabetic as to what should they do. My advice has been,"Listen to and obey what your primary care phsysician tells you to do. Then see a nutritionist and listen to them also.

I tell most newly diagnosed people not to take advice from just any diabetic. I have heard a lot of well intended but poor advice from old timers. A lot of older T2s have not really done much research and are still stuck in the old ways of treating their condition. Also, what works for one person may not work for you. Treating the two different types are sooooo different. I've had alot of people tell me that I can't have a peice of candy because I'm diabetic. He/she may not be able to because they are either treating by diet/exercise alone or they are just misinformed.
You are doing the correct thing by telling them to follow their dr. directions. Keep up the good work and just try to explain to them why you can't really advise.
