Diabetes is nothing to be scared of!. It's treatable!. If she was just diagnosed she's got type 2 and may just need to take a pill or two a day!. (Grandmas do not get type 1) She should cut back on sweets and any food high in carbohydrates!. Some people have lots of trouble with diabetes, some folks just take a pill and move along without any real big issues!. Some folks with type 2, like your grandma, may eventally need insulin injections to lower their blood sugar levels!. My mom was diagnosed in her 60's, she just takes one pill a day and has had no problems (and that was well over 10 years ago)!.

I'm sure that most people here are not trying to scare you!. I'm also sure that your grandmother will be fine as long as she listens to her doctor!. My grandfather and my father both have diabetes!. It can be a little scary to think about but, as long as they're following what their doc says, they're fine!. It may be that she only needs to watch what she eats or she may have to take a pill every day or a shot but, in this day and age, that's not so abnormal!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
