Is it worth modifying the Powder Room to accomodate a wheel in shower?!

Question: Is it worth modifying the Powder Room to accomodate a wheel in shower!?
Our mother recently suffered a stroke!. We are currently looking at getting a wheel-in shower and have two options to consider!. First one, is to modify the powder room which is attached to the library which she is currently using as a bedroom!. It is right at the entrance, at the front of the house!. The second option is to build a Bigger bedroom with an attached wheel-in shower in the basement, thereby giving her better privacy!. The difference in cost is a couple of thousand, however, taking her to the basement will require a stair glide!. My major concern is safety, hence, I am confused!.!.!.Please help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Speaking from a nursing standpoint, I would go with your first option which is to make the current bathroom wheelchair accessible!. It sounds like her bedroom is on the main floor and it would be easier for her caretakers to enter the room if an emergency arises!.

With renovating the basement, your mother has privacy but you also will need to check on her more often to make sure she's alright!. It would therefore, be more running for her caretakers!.

It also depends on how functional your mother is!. If she needs total care, then I would definitely go with option 1!. You can always renovate the basement later if needed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If it were my mother, I would modify the powder room for her!. Consider her physical needs and her dignity, and don't send her to the basement! Www@Answer-Health@Com
