No!.
it is not the mere presence of a germ that causes tonsilitis!.
it is a complex interplay between the germ and the host factors!. Just like having appendicitis or a bad gallbladder -- both of those conditions involve the presence of bacteria, but neither of those are contagious either!.
You need to realize that strep germs are in the pharynx all the time in most people -- but most people do NOT get tonsillitis!.
So the fact that your spit coming out of your mouth has your germs on it is unimportant -- you cannot "spread" tonsillitis -- just like you cannot "spread" appendicitis !!! The germs are already in my mouth and my appendix and my gallbladder -- when I get those diseases, it is due to factors other than the mere presence of the germ!.
We do not isolate patients with tonsillitis
we do not treat close family contacts
we do not have the health department track down family and friends and put them on quarantine!.
