Off anti-depressants now having what seems like vertigo?!

Question:

Off anti-depressants now having what seems like vertigo?

I was perscribed anti depressants for anxiety/panic attacks which really worked for me. However I havent taken my anti depressants in about a week or so (just havent gotten around to going to the pharmacy). I have been noticing that I am feeling very lightheaded and dizzy, almost like vertigo...could this possibly be a symptom of suddenly stopping my medication?

Answers:

Sounds like the dizziness could be a result of coming off the meds. I imagine the symptoms will pass pretty quickly though. You may already know all this, but can I suggest some ways of getting rid of panic attacks and anxiety med-free? (Just in case you're interested?)

1.Breathing properly will control your panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot, lot better. Once you start practising, it’ll become second nature.

2. Also I would really advise a course of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks. It takes a bit of work, but if you put the effort in it’s super effective. You can speak to your doctor about doing a course, or you can take a course for free online at: http://www.livinglifetothefull.com/elear...

3. I also suggest relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really help if you practise often enough. This site has instructions on how to do it without the tapes (and other useful info): http://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resource...

I hope you start feeling better soon.
