I need advice from pregnant women with genital herpes...?!

Question: I need advice from pregnant women with genital herpes!.!.!.!?
I am on my second pregnancy and was diagnosed with gh at the very beginning of this pregnancy!. I had it when I had my first child, but was unaware and had not been diagnosed properly (long story)!.

I had my first child vaginally and thank goodness she is perfectly healthy, had I known for certain I had the virus, I would have opted for a c-section!.

My question now is this!.!.!.!. now that I've been properly diagnosed, the doctors have given me Valtrex to take for outbreaks!. Also, they tell me at 35 weeks, I'll go on it daily to prevent an outbreak during the time of my delivery!. But now that I am fully aware of my diagnosis, I'm scared to pieces!.

I would love it if some other people would share their stories with me and tell me whether or not you opted for an elective c-section or chose vaginal delivery!.

Please no rude or hateful comments, I really just need some advice!.

Thanks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'd be 'scared to death' to be on such a new drug during my pregnancy!
It's fairly new to the market! Acyclovir was 1st and Valtrex is the SUPER-acyclovir that was introduced a very short time ago!

Besides this concern - I've had 3 very healthy beautiful HERPE-free children by planned C-section!.!.!.and I feel I did the best thing for my children by making sure 100% they would not pay for my mistakes of the past

Please email me if you need more advice

The main thing is not to be in an outbreak during delivery and that virus is controlled, no symptoms!.

Take your Valtrex as prescribed, to avoid any harm to the newborn!.

In my opinion if herpes is active during labor, you will get a C section, but if it is not, you can get a vaginal delivery!. Ask a gyn anyway!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My sister, like me, has genital herpes!.

She has had three healthy babies via vaginal delivery - it really isn't a problem at all if you are not having an outbreak!.

Remember, between one in four and one in three pregnant women currently have herpes!. The vast majority of those go on to have a safe vaginal delivery - you are really not alone and it is something your gyn sees all the time so he knows what he is talking about!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am sorry!. I do not have GH but I do feel for you!. Just remember now there is nothing you can do except take your med everyday to help prevent and treat outbreaks!. I hope you have a good support system and people you can trust at home!. Don't down because nothing can change the diagnosis now but things will be ok once you are used to dealing with this! I would NOT have a vaginal birth!. There is always the chance that you are having an outbreak and don't know it!.
I'm sure you have done your homework and know how serious it is for a newborn to contract the virus!.
I hear c-sections are not that bad anyway!. Good luck with that new baby!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

First off I'm a guy!. I'll try to give advice as a human and not as a male!.

Generally it's your call!. Your doctors will suggest a C-section to lower the chances of herpes infecting your child!. I know natural child birth is a spiritual feeling, but think of the welfare of your child!. Herpes can be given to your child during birth!. Majority of cases the virus get in their eye which can cause blindness!.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this!. Weigh your risks and chances of infection!. I'd say a C-section would be the safest route!.

I've had genital herpes for a long time now, and consider myself pretty knowledgable about it!. I've not had children, but this question seems to come up a lot on Y!A, and I can certainly share what I've seen!.

Some women will say "I had a vaginal delivery and it was fine!. As long as you aren't having an outbreak, its not a problem!."

Other women will say "Why risk it!? I chose a c-section to be 100% certain that this wouldn't be an issue!."

I honestly don't think that there is a wrong answer here!. You're going to need to choose what is best for you!. Don't let a doctor talk you into a c-section - and don't let a doctor talk you out of a c-section!. If you want to go that way, find a doctor who will give you a c-section!.

I've put a link below to a great webpage on herpes and pregnancy!. It sounds as though you are pretty knowledgable already!.

Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
