My basal rates in class?!

Question:

My basal rates in class?

I have a college course science lab which runs for 4 hours and 20 min to be exact. I eat lunch at 12 noon and then based on my basal from 12-3:30 1.7 I bolus and I have a high blood glucose say around 2pm. Im just having a hard time to adjusting with eating in between lab and testing in lab obviousely I have to leave and test and eat. But that will take time in my lab. So i dont know what to do. Please with anyone in the same situation. I want to make sure I have energy. enough sleep the night before but i have to studyyyyy. Its too much but I need to take the class. Please somebody anybody in the same situation advise me on how it is to manage standing around all day and making sure I complete my lab and most important make sure my sugar is under control. Thanks.

One thing you might try is to lower your fat intake at lunch. Fat in a meal can slow the insulin absorbtion. If your bg is elevated 2 hours after a meal, check in 3 hrs and see if it comes down to normal ranges. If it has come down, then it may be just because of the fat in your meal. If it is still elevated, though, then you may need to raise your basal rates just a bit.
Also, do you have to leave to test? You can test discreatly at your desk/table or where ever you may be. Don't be embarassed about testing or bolusing. The more people see this, the more they'll understand it. And it could also give you the oppertunity to educate them more about our condition. I never try to "hide", but I do try to be considerate of other's unease. Good luck.
