Genital Warts - Got to start from somewhere?

I've been reading on genital warts because a friend of mine just got it. The reading materials say that GW are spread by sexual contact. But make me wonder, before the first sexual contact ever that started to spread the HPV virus, how did the very first infected person get infected? The friend of mine's been monogamous and so is her partner, but she got it a few weeks after some hemorrhoids surgery at some overseas hospital. In her case, could it be the sanitary conditions overseas? Because as I understand, the procedure involved enemas or cleansing of the rectal way.

I've never heard of it being caught this way before. It can be caught from oral sex and mastribation if the other person has them on heir hands.
