Tetanus risk?!
Question:
Tetanus risk?
My 3-year old daughter just scratched herself on our air vent, which has a little rust on it. The scratch is long (she was trying to squeeze past it quickly), but not deep at all; there was only the tiniest, slightest trace of blood in one place. I quickly cleaned the area, let it dry for a few minutes, then put antibiotic ointment on it and put clean cotton panties on her. With a wound so slight, is there any chance that she might need a tetanus booster shot? I'd call the doctor, but the office is closed now, and I don't want to bug him if I don't have to.
Answers:
If her vaccine are up to date then there is no risk. The dpt and even the adult TD last a lot longer than they are guaranteed for.
