Hi, sorry about your mom. I am 40, have had it for over 20 years. It has attacked my liver, with autoimmune hepatitis (or lupoid hepatitis), and my brain. I just got off Chemo for the attack on both. I dont know what organs are being attacked, but with modern medicine, she can live a long time, with proper care, compliance, and as little stress in her life as possible, a good diet, and a good medical team. I started getting ill at 13. Got Diagnosed at 29. I know people in their 60's with it, and they are not dying. The death rate is much lower than 20 years ago. It is a low percentage, but in a small percentage can happen. Usually the paitents are very obese, or dont take care of themselves. I do comply with my dr's pretty good, I expect to live a long time. She just need help from loved ones, support, people outside her family to give her support who are like her, and maybe some lifestyle changes. You cant stop the disease. Just control it with medications. and Procedures depending what organs are involved. If you dont cause her great stress, you are helping her by living there, taking stress off her, being her child and loving her, she needs help, cleaning, cooking, recioving and giving love. Though ill, shes still your mom, and wants to be. I have a daughter 21 and one 13. one is grown and gone. The other just turning a teen, but I usually like her here, shes my baby. I can tell you she will be different, tired, sleep more, weak. maybe scared. she needs to understand the illness. information is power.

I own an online message board/support group. we inform, laugh, act like girlfriends, with lil girl stuff, but we love each other. if she can use a computer , or you, you or her can learn more. there is also www.lupus.org which can lead you to support in your area.

I wish you and your mom well.
Chris
