Is there any nursing facilities out there any good at taking care of a patient w!
Question:
Is there any nursing facilities out there any good at taking care of a patient with bad ulcers?
My daughter has been found to be a diabetic and she has a colonostomy and a urostomy bag. This is brand new to us and we want to get to know others that is living/dealing with these problems. HELP!
Answers:
I would ask her Physician for a referral to a Nursing Facility that will meet all of her needs. Most facilities have a wound care nurse that only works with wounds, ask the facilities if they have one as well.
Ask friends & family if they know of any and when you get a list of some, or even one, call them and schedule a tour of the facility. You could also look it up in the Yellow Pages & start touring various facilities. You should be able to call your local health department & inquire that way as well.
While you are in the facility, they all have their State Survey results available for viewing & I would even ask them about it. Every facility is inspected by the Health Department on a yearly basis.
Pay attention to details when you are on a tour & ask anything & everything that you can possibly think of. I would suggest making yourself a list & writing all answers down. You are basically interviewing them & they will be more than happy to answer any of your questions.
When you find a facility that you are comfortable in their competency of taking care of your daughter & you've placed her there, make frequent visits at various times of the day/evening.
Just remember that the staff will do everything possible to take care of your daughter in a caring, professional & timely manner but they are human and usually have 10 patients or more to take care of at one time, depending on the shift.
I work in a Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and I take great pride in the care that I give the residents that live there.
I hope that this helps you out.
