Upcoming mastectomy and a little nervous about return of cancer?!

Question: Upcoming mastectomy and a little nervous about return of cancer!?
Without getting into all details, it will be here in less than a week!. I've asked many questions on this and many of you already know what I'm talking about!. Just to recap, I'm having my second mastectomy in less than a week!. 2 yrs ago, I had my first, Long story short, the surgeon left a lot of breast tissue!. I got a new Oncologist, he said no diseased breast tissue should ever be left when taking a cancerous breast!. I have a lot left & now it will be like having a bi-lateral mastectomy because he has to redo my first!. I guess I'm just looking for support!. I always get such wonderful support from you people!. I have met some wonderful friends on here that I will cherish for life!. I'm nervous that the old tissue may have retained cancer cells because the Oncologist only 1 cell is all you need to get it back!. I've had many surgeries in the past, but this one really has me worried!. I know I have to leave it in God's hands, but I just want some encouraging words from wonderful people like you!. If you want to know the entire story, read my questions on my mastectomies!. Thank you all so much God bless you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like the new oncologist is much better than the other doc you had!. That makes a big difference!. Some people rely on their surgeon as their main cancer doc, but I've always relied on my medical oncologist as the captain of this ship!. He's got the most knowledge about cancer, and he gets my trust when it comes to knowing how best to fight the disease!.

I'm sure he will guide you through the best treatment to minimize the chances of recurrence (again)!. Especially as he knows your history!.

It sucks to have to face it again, but it's not that uncommon!. When they tell you that 85% of breast cancer patients will be alive at 5 years, they don't mention that quite a few of them will get there with a second battle against the disease!. It's not just recurrence of the original, as it seems to be with you !.!.!. 20 - 40% of women will have a new primary breast cancer some time in their life!. (Whatever caused it in the first place, is probably still a factor in the second case !.!.!.!.)

So, this time, you have the experience and knowledge acquired the first time!. I know you're worried, but you just have to get through the next few days, then you'll have this behind you!.

I wish you the best success in your upcoming surgery!. Are chemo and radiation in the picture too!?

In this day and age its sad that society in general focuses on supercial external beauty!.!.!.its difficult for someone such as yourself going through such trauma to be able to live amongst it!.
